It helps all members on the project to come together and streamline the BIM process allowing teams to coordinate and share a single window to access all project information. Even with a high-powered computer, it still takes too much time. Honestly, the ability to use Revizto and load the point cloud files from a scanner in a matter of seconds is what piqued my interest in this software back in 2018.įor those that deal with point clouds or data heavy files, you understand where I’m coming from. Nothing kills momentum and productivity more than sitting around for a model to load. One BIM (building information modeling) tool that has caught my attention is Revizto. As a BIM director, I do a lot of research and keep tabs on almost all of the construction software out there. It is easy to become overwhelmed with the amount of software companies that you will find in your Google search as each software seems to specialize in different tasks. The second step is deciding on what software to go with next. The new theme is collaboration, where the team comes together with a positive mindset to come up with solutions rather than playing the one up game and pointing out another trades problem. There are more women in construction now more than ever and with all these great technological resources available, companies will need to adapt or die.Ĭompanies are spending too much money, for a person to have a negative mindset and argue over petty items with the team. The race to be first and the fear of technology should be a thing of the past. ![]() Gone should be the days of the 1950s construction worker who is stubborn and misogynistic. The reports are very customizable and you can email them out easily, but you need an attention span to digest it which my entire audience may not have. The first step in this evolution is the change in mindset. Right now, I'm making one myself from the graphics that I get from the reporting feature on their website. What I would love is to get a dashboard-level report out of the program. The programming team has been extremely open to suggestions for new features and updates that improve performance and function come regularly. The program itself is quick to master, and easy for subcontractors/designers to make notes and update statuses. It's great that it has the entire model as well as being able to overlay the floorplans or shop drawings, which came in handy when I was coordinating a structure built with post-tensioned concrete. I use it alongside Navisworks for clash detection, and this is great for making subcontractors accountable for deadlines in resolving conflicts and keeping track of what needs to be done. The best part of this software is the issue tracking capability. More drawing markup offerings would be nice, such as area takeoffs, copy clip areas from drawings. Having the ability to reply above a line by email and have the communication automatically shop up in issue tracker would be a great addition. As a project architect I sometimes don't have access to a laptop for half a day. Having an updated set of 2d drawings and 3d model at my fingertips at all times has become a lifesaver in client and contractor meetings. Issue Tracker also allows the Project Manager or Job Captain to track team member tasks, the team members mark the task as complete and the Project Manager can check the task completion, just like using the yellow highlighter with drawing markups, but all tasks can be tracked digitally. ![]() This style of open communication is the future. This workflow allows all users to openly see all conversations, so if I've missed someone on a communication string, they can still contribute. The Issue Tracker in Revizto allows the entire project team to communicate in a single user interface. ![]() ![]() ![]() A weak or fractured European Union is a serious geopolitical setback for the United States. ![]() Rather, we here in the United States ought to be worried about Europe and the centrifugal forces that seem to inexorably be pulling apart our closest pool of allies in the world. ![]() We should not be afraid of Russian strength, but rather of Russian weakness - because they still possess a powerful military, the will to use it, and over 7,000 nuclear weapons (which they mention frequently, as if to remind us of their existence).įrankly, we should not lay awake at night worried about Russia. Coupled with declining demographics, a significant alcohol and drug problem, falling life expectancy, an economy dependent on commodities, and a lack of transparent democracy, Russia has a handful of difficult challenges - although there has been some modest demographic improvement of late. Fortunately, we are not back there.īut let us be realistic in the assessment of Moscow’s messaging in Munich: this is a regime under significant internal economic pressure, resulting from a combination of low oil prices and sanctions. There was virtually no dialogue or cooperation between the Soviet Union and the NATO alliance. I am old enough to remember the Cold War - it featured millions of troops on the Fulda Gap in Europe, ready to attack each other two huge battle fleets all around the world chasing each other in a massive Hunt for Red October world and a couple of enormous nuclear arsenals on a hair-trigger alert poised to destroy the world. Let’s begin with a reality check: we are not in a new Cold War. The comments came across to many as a cri de coeur on the part of the Russians that if things don’t start going their way (lift the sanctions, let Assad dominate Syria, show us the deep respect we crave) then this new Cold War will become a new normal. With all due respect, most non-Russians here didn’t hear a conciliatory tone instead, they heard a not-so-veiled threat. In Munich this year, many of my Russian friends and colleagues were quick to say, “What he really means is that we need to be careful that we don’t end up in a Cold War.” In other words, it’s a friendly cautionary note as we continue to levy sanctions on Russia for their illegal invasion of Ukraine and blatant annexation of Crimea. Hardly a comforting memory to surface at a security conference. For those who need a quick refresher, 1962 was the year of the Cuban Missile Crisis, when the world teetered on the brink of nuclear war. In a long and somewhat rambling speech, his key sound bite was actually quite jarring: We are in a new Cold War, and that this year, 2016, reminded him of 1962 (never mind that he was not born then). He was clearly sent on a mission to provide the West (Europe, the United States, and NATO) with a view from Moscow. Most remember former President Medvedev from a few years ago, when he led the Russian Federation with a more congenial face than that presented by current President Vladimir Putin. The forum has been around for decades, but this year, over an unseasonably warm weekend, the most dramatic speech was about the cold: as in the Cold War, by Russian Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev. Every year, the security glitterati of the world gather in Germany for the annual Munich Security Conference. ![]() ![]() ![]() Although this strain offers some lucid mental stimulation, these effects are soon accompanied by strong sedative effects, making this a good choice for a mellow night in. Typically wound up and activated by someone in a position of power, these objects and the theological and political arguments they made were highly valued by German-speaking nobility. Their movements were driven by gears, wheels, and springs painstakingly assembled by clockmakers. The intricate gilt, silver, enameled, and bejeweled clockwork automata, almost exclusively crafted in the city of Augsburg, represented a variety of subjects in motion, from religious figures to animals. In Animating Empire, Jessica Keating recounts the lost history of six such objects and reveals the religious, social, and political meaning they held. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, German clockwork automata were collected, displayed, and given as gifts throughout the Holy Roman, Ottoman, and Mughal Empires. In the process, she arouses our own fascination, echoing those responses to privileged displays by these moving metal devices as they performed before early modern monarchs.” -Larry Silver, co-author of Rembrandt’s Faith Keating’s meticulous research newly restores a nearly vanished art form to its rightful place-as the bearer of cultural values and courtly prestige at the very heart of ceremonial court performances. ![]() Automata, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Early Modern World Jessica Keating “This book, presenting the ‘curiosities’ that we now call automata, unwinds a large network of interconnected early modern phenomena: the fraught world of religious contests, augmented by intense political rivalries the connections between court centers of power, including connections between Germany and faraway Istanbul and Delhi and the origins of early princely collecting in ‘curiosity cabinets.’ Here art and nature rivaled each other yet intertwined through technology and craftsmanship, powered by Augsburg watchmakers. ![]() |
